It happens the same to me using Slax
GNU/Linux. When I use Slax with nvidia, ATI, etc. I need to load specific drivers for enabling acceleration, but no with Intel chipsets. The bad thing is that a can not change resolution from the KDE desktop (perhaps editing xorg, I haven't tried).
As read in the link bellow you might need to modify the BIOS:
SLAX system modules 915resolution
