Most likely you didn't set up
DNS
on the Virtual machine.
You will need to add
dns
to the hosts line in /etc/nsswitch.conf
and add /etc/resolv.conf with "nameserver <ip address of your
dns
server>" as contents.
/etc/nsswitch.conf

dns
...
/etc/resolv.conf
Code:
... nameserver 192.168.1.3 ...
