Summer_cherry is just doing a echo of number,nothing to do with number that is not a variable.Whatever you do with echo that is excatly printed again.If you do not understand the code let me know i will tell you.

I have one file which first line is blank and second line has some data.

I want to store 30-MAY-07 value in one variable.
for that I wrote
var="`head -2 filename`"
It will give that result but I want to truncate the first line which is blank.

SYNOPSIS

Tells whether the filename is executable.
PARAMETERS
o $filename
- Path to the file.
RETURN VALUES
Returns TRUE if the filename exists and is executable, or FALSE on error.
