proftp is an ftp server application, which can be run as a stand alone daemon, or through xinetd.

It looks after ftp authentication and transfer. It ships with most major distributions of linux, and you can always look for it at www.rpmfind.net. You will need to search for proftpd.

proftp is a superior alternative to wu-ftp and is very similar to apache when it comes to configuration. Let me know if you need help to set it up.
