Question login error(can not set process env.)

I have created user in AIX 4.3.3 which the member of staff group.
but during login ( with su command) it gives the error
"can not set process environment "
but when it is member of another group -dba -which is the group for oracle database- it works properly.

Pls let me know the solution.

Thanking you in advance

Can you verify that the "staff" group actually exists?

Actually staff is default group
and the same problem is there for other member of staff group and other groups except the dba group. The users were working properly previously and also there is no change is made in the system currently.

Let's see if I understand you correctly...

You have (at least) the following groups...

dba
staff

Users in the "staff" group login "normally"
as themselves without a problem. The user then
does...

su - oracle

...types oracle's password and gets...

"can not set process environment "

...Users in the "dba" group login "normally"
as themselves without a problem. The user then
does...

su - oracle

...types oracle's password and do not have a
problem. Is this correct? Also, when the user
sees the error message, what is their effective
userid... "oracle" or their original UID?
